Peru: the mayor of Lima confirms strong support to NGV
Luis Castaneda Lossio stated at an important climate summit, which recently took place in Korea, that the metropolitan corridor is ready to be effective. That way will cover the route between the districts of Chorrillos and Comas, where 600 CNG-driven buses will operate.
Officials of the Peruvian capital gather efforts against environmental pollution, carried out on several fronts. Regarding the use of a clean fuel, an ordinance issued in 2005 mandates that public transport runs on CNG on the new routes of the country. From then onwards, the municipal government's actions were aimed at promoting natural gas as the most appropriate option for urban vehicles.
In this sense, the officials decided to adopt the Euro 5 standard, which fixes demanding low pollution limits. In addition, the mayor Lossio Castañeda stressed at the C4 III Climate Summit 2009 that the Metropolitan Fund gave over 35,000 credits for the conversion of vehicles to CNG.
Peru will be the epicenter of the I Latin American Summit of NGV and Alternative Fuels, and the II ExpoGNV Peru, which will welcome 60 exhibitors and over 5,000 visitors from all over the world.
